How We Make Money
The short answer, as of July 20, 2026: one affiliate relationship, disclosed wherever it appears. Here is exactly what that means.
Today
- One affiliate relationship: Chewy. As of July 20, 2026 we participate in Chewy's affiliate program. Chewy sells chicken supplies (feed, brooders, feeders) — it is not a hatchery and does not sell chicks, so it never appears in our price tables. Where a breed page suggests supplies, those Chewy links carry a referral tag, and if you buy something after clicking one, Chewy pays us a small commission (currently 1% of the sale). It costs you nothing extra — prices on their site are the same either way. Every page with these links carries a disclosure note.
- No ads. There is no advertising anywhere on the site. (We have applied to an ad network; if ads are ever added, this page and the privacy policy will say so first.)
- No hatchery pays us. Not for placement, ranking, listing, or anything else. Links to hatchery product pages are plain links with no tracking or referral parameters — we earn nothing if you click them or order.
Affiliate commissions are the site's only revenue today; remaining running costs are paid out of pocket.
Why you can still trust the numbers
The supplies links live in their own clearly marked section, separate from the price comparison. The pipeline that collects hatchery prices and computes medians has no knowledge of who pays us — see the methodology. Money can't move a number.
If this changes
Any new ads or affiliate relationships will be disclosed here and in the privacy policy before they appear on the site.
Commitments that hold either way
- Paid relationships will never affect the data. Prices, availability, medians, and rankings come straight from each hatchery's public catalog and are never edited by hand.
- All 6 hatcheries get identical treatment, whether or not any of them ever pays us. On breed pages, hatcheries are ordered by current cheapest in-stock price — nothing else.
- No pay-to-appear, no pay-to-hide. Which hatcheries the index tracks is a coverage decision, never a commercial one.
- Accuracy comes first. A price index is only worth anything if you can trust it.
